Picture the scene; in my early fifties I was made redundant from the world of IT, and judging that there was more chance of me seeing Lord Lucan riding Shergar to victory in the next St. Leger, than continuing in my chosen trade, I bade a fond farewell to the computer business and took the next logical and blatantly obvious career move. I would be a Chinese Takeaway Delivery Driver.
These are some of my experiences, in no particular order, as an ‘Oriental Comestible Transportation Executive,’ with liberal scatterings of general observations on life, the universe and everything. Most of the stories contain a certain percentage of poetic license, plus necessary name, location and setting changes, but there is more than a grain of truth in them all.

Stand Deliver Chinese Takeaway Delivery Drivers do it Szechuan Style eBook Adrian Marshall
In his early fifties this author was made redundant (laid off) from his job in Information Technology and became a delivery man for a Chinese restaurant. Now there's absolutely nothing wrong with working in IT. It's perfectly legal and generally pays well, but there are other professions which provide more material for a wanna-be writer and delivery driver is definitely one of them. When you're delivering goods, you meet a variety of people, which increases your chances of running into some real nutters. Stories about dealing with crazy people are highly entertaining to those of us who don't have to do it. Also, a delivery job entails (inevitably) some time which can be spent in quiet contemplation. A clever, imaginative man (and our hero definitely qualifies) will use this time to think up amusing stories about what COULD happen if (say) he was forced into close contact with a beautiful, young policewoman with (naturally) handcuffs.
After all, if the story is well-plotted and has believable characters and is loaded with sly British humor, what reader will be foolish enough to demand a polygraph test? Not this one! This little book is delightful. Hope he keeps writing.

Stand Deliver Chinese Takeaway Delivery Drivers do it Szechuan Style eBook Adrian Marshall Reviews
“Stand and Deliver” is a short, funny and also interesting ebook that sees our delivery driver get into and out of all sorts of fixes. Whether or not it is based on real life was not really the point for me, the anecdotes have the flavour of the absurd nonsense of everyday life.
My only gripe was that it was all over too soon.
Almost anyone who enjoys satire and observational comedy will like this.
This review is for the edition ebook.
Disclosure I was given my copy of this book by the author as a review copy.
I laughed harder with each new tale.
When you become obsolete in your 50's, you have to find a new position. ‘Oriental Comestible Transportation Executive’ is a great one, for some people. Life is a game we are forced into, and it is up to each one of us to make it an experience. This is the story of how one person managed to make the most of a situation.
I really enjoyed this book! It had me laughing really hard the more I read. For each of us, life throws up challenges. How we approach those challenges defines who we really are. This book describes a truly fun way one person overcame some of those challenges. This book is written by a British author, using British English. It will still be great for most Americans, but not everyone will understand all the slang used.
This is many anecdotes and short tales combined to make a great book. Most of the tales are short enough to read while on a bus or train, to and from work. I would like to see the fonts enabled on the ebook. This book uses quite a small typeface, and I usually have to use large type. For this book, I have the choice of tiny or the largest typeface my kindle has.
I think Adrian Marshall writes to educate and entertain. This book certainly will entertain most readers.
If you enjoy reading about someone else's challenges and how they make the most of a situation, you will enjoy this book. For the reader that wants to know what life could be like in the United Kingdom, this book provides a bit of insight. Having read this book, I have to believe his childrens books are very entertaining.
Or how about this passage "The exact reasons for the move elude me at the moment, but I seem to recall that it had something to do with fowl pest, an embarrassing incident involving the postman and a rubber duck, and her Uncle Bert's varicose veins." Some consistently funny British humor that delivered (most especially the "Passenger Seat Driver" that was a classic set-up!) Just remember "Don't eat the green bits, the chef has a heavy cold."
